Cabbage Kootu

ORIGIN:
Cabbage cootu is a popular south indian dish rich in proteins due to the dhal ingredient and rich in vitamin k due to the cabbage ingredient.
This is usually mixed with plain rice and taken for lunch.

INGREDIENTS

Cabbage - 150gms.

Moong dhal - 1/2 cup.

Salt - 1 tsp.

Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp.

Oil - 1 tsp.

Black Gram - 1/2 tsp.

Sambar powder - 1 1/ 2 tsp.

Curry Leaves - 1/2 tsp.

Asafoetida - a pinch.

PROCEDURE

Step 1:Chop the cabbage into small pieces.

Step 2:Mix the moong dhal with the chopped cabbage and add 1 cup of water to it and cook in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes.

Step 3:Add 11/2 tsps. of sambar powder to the cooked cabbage-dhal mixture ,add little water to it and heat on a low flame in a cooking pan for 10 minutes.

Step 4:Heat oil ,add mustard seeds and wait until it sputters.

Step 5:Now,add curry leaves to it and fry for a minute.

Step 6:Now,add this to the cooked cabbage cootu.

Step 7:Serve hot with plain rice.

NOTE:

*Take all the ingredients in the above mentioned quantity only.
*While cooking cabbage , add weight to the pressure cooker.
